Turner Industries Employee Places Third in Driving Contest - Tuesday, June 15, 2010

JUNE 4-5, 2010 BATON ROUGE, LA – Turner Industries recently participated in Louisiana Motor Transport Association’s 20th annual Louisiana Truck Driving Championships, and employee Casey Lynch placed third in the Five-Axle Flatbed Division.

2010 marks the fifteenth year Turner Industries has participated in this event and is the first year for Mr. Lynch to compete. The competition requires each driver to take three tests: a written exam, a pre-trip truck inspection test, and a driving obstacle course test. In order to be eligible, an applicant must have zero accidents of any kind within twelve months of the competition. This year the contestants represent nearly 128,000,000 accident-free miles.

The written exam puts to test drivers’ rules, regulations, and trucking industry knowledge. The pre-trip inspection test is, as Mr. Ellis Vliet, Chairman of the competition, says, "Where it gets fun”. The judges place seventeen defects on each participant’s truck and the drivers have eight minutes to locate all problems. Finally, drivers are tested on how well they can maneuver their trucks by driving the controlled obstacle course. First place winners are sent to Nationals and compete against drivers from across the country. Mr. Lynch placed third among ninety-nine contestants, which is no easy feat. We congratulate him and all of our drivers for their dedicated work ethic and outstanding safety record.
