Heavy Duty Haul
|
An international chemical company recently chose Turner
Industries Crane & Rigging to haul a variety of vessels from the Port of
New Orleans to a regional plant site. The client required Turner to provide
supervision, labor, equipment, materials, permits and tools for the job. The
requirements necessary to fulfill the client’s expectations tested a range of
Turner’s capabilities and strengths.
All vessels were imported to the Port of New Orleans from
Japan. From there, 100 vessels were trucked directly to the plant site. One of
these included the largest vessel to ever be trucked through downtown New
Orleans. Twenty-seven vessels were loaded onto barges, floated up the
Mississippi River and down bayous, offloaded at another landing site, and then
trucked to the plant on our fleet of Goldhoffer trailers.
Vessel delivery was originally intended for six shipments,
one per month for six months. When they started arriving off-schedule, Turner
quickly improvised, managing the vessels on leased property and delivering them
when the plant was ready.
It was critical that the hauls be handled carefully, both to
protect the vessels and to preserve the surrounding, in-route historic sites
and bayou environment. Steadfast preparation in completing required forms,
acquiring permits, mapping multiple routes and completing necessary safety
checks culminated in the project’s successful and hazard-free execution.
Completing the project ahead of schedule, with no accidents,
incidents or injuries, resulted in Turner’s Crane & Rigging group being
awarded the next phase of hauling for the client.
