Koch Modular Process Systems (9 Modular Units)
|
In 2007, Turner Industries was awarded the fabrication and assembly of nine modular units to be constructed at the Turner Industries facility located in Decatur, Al. The project scope included fabrication, assembly of modules, functional check-out and disassembly for shipment to Spain. Turner’s construction team was led by project superintendent, Sidney Davis, who has over 25 years of service.
Turner Industries self-performed all pipe and vessel fabrication; piping, steel and equipment erection; and the electrical and instrumentation work for the project. Turner Industries’ management took the lead with planning and formulating project specific safety procedures for construction, which required working at elevated heights, the assembly of components in congested spaces, and rigging plans for critical lifts required during disassembly of units.
The largest module weighed approximately 120,000 lbs. and measured 70ft x 14ft x 12ft when loaded for shipment. In order to maintain the owner’s schedule, one of the modules was transported to Spain via the Antonov 124, a special Russian-made aircraft. The remaining module units were transported to the Port of Jacksonville, Fl., for overseas shipment. The project required more than 80,000 work hours and approximately 100 craftsmen to complete. This project represented Turner Industries’ success at supplying multiple services, on time and with zero recordables to provide the client with the experience and knowledge they trust.
Modular units were completed for Koch Modular Process Systems – Paramus, N.J. KMPS has relied on Turner Industries to provide construction services for the assembly of modular units on numerous projects over the past 15 years. KMPS recently awarded Turner Industries a similar project to be completed in Decatur, Al., which is scheduled for completion later this year.
