Harmony, L.L.C. at Rhodia-B.R. utilizes safety technique to provide safe and cost efficient job

Harmony, L.L.C. at Rhodia – Baton Rouge has successfully completed the “Upgrade Concrete @ Unit 2 Pump Tank Area” project. The project consisted of removing 85 tons of existing concrete paving, foundations, and soil.  After demolition, Harmony L.L.C. installed 45 tons of structural clay and limestone to provide a stable base. A total of 70 cubic yards of concrete were installed to encase and reinforce the existing tank and pipe support foundations, extend a drain trench, and provide area paving.

However, the work area was totally inaccessible to construction equipment due to operating equipment, piping, and structural steel completely surrounding the work site. The job had to be performed entirely by hand, thus creating safety concerns such as possible back injuries. In order to engineer safety into the work plan, a 35-foot aggregate belt conveyor (pictured below) was utilized to transport existing concrete and soil out of the work area and new clay and limestone into the unit.

As a result, the project was completed under budget and on schedule with zero incidents and zero injuries.

Harmony, L.L.C. has been a major contractor for Rhodia – Baton Rouge since September 2002 with no OSHA recordable injuries (21 months to date).
