Recognizing a shortage of qualified planners and schedulers to staff our growing requirements, Turner Industries management tasked the Corporate Projects Controls (CPC) group with the development of a program to build a team of knowledgeable and competent planners to fill both current and projected vacancies. Answering this challenge, CPC established and implemented a six-week training seminar. Given the fast pace and demanding curriculum, the program was quickly coined “Planning Boot Camp.”
The “Boot Camp” program is aimed to integrate Turner Industries’ planning processes and methodologies with participants’ own previous knowledge and experience. Courses within the program utilize our most advanced software, including WinTake©, WinTEAMS©, WinPCS© and Quickplan©. Participants also receive in-depth training in blueprint reading, estimating and generating material take-offs. Throughout the program, they visit active jobsites and one of our fabrication facilities.
Since its inception in 2006, 96 individuals have trained and graduated from the “Boot Camp.” Including the 10th class recently graduated, over 19,000 training hours have been delivered at a half million dollar investment– evidence of Turner Industries’ commitment to providing our clients with properly trained personnel and to the advancement of our employees.
