TEAM Turner™ volunteers helped set up the 2015 Louisiana Mission of Mercy (LAMOM), a free dental clinic event held recently at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The event provided approximately 1,500 area residents with much needed free dental care, valued at over one million dollars.
The Armed Forces Reserve Center was transformed into a large-scale dental clinic with the purpose of treating adults and children who have limited financial resources or are otherwise unable to visit a dental office. Over two days, hundreds of volunteer dentists, hygienists, assistants, students and community workers from across the state of Louisiana provided services including exams, X-rays, cleanings, fillings, anterior root canals, extractions and front teeth transitional partials.
TEAM Turner volunteers from the Motiva Convent site, the Baton Rouge equipment yard, and the small capital fabrication shop, did everything from helping unload the 18 wheelers full of dental equipment, to setting up chairs and filling bags with toothpaste, floss and a toothbrush for the patients. Turner Industries also provided the free dental clinic with tables, chairs and three tents to keep the patients protected from the weather.
On Friday, the first day of the event, patients began lining up at 4 am and on Saturday, the line started even earlier. Turner is proud to have been a part of an event that helped so many people.
