Turner Industries Receives National Excellence in Construction Eagle Award

Turner Industries’ Marathon Petroleum HCU Revamp/Turnaround project in Garyville, Louisiana, was selected as the 2014 Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) National Eagle level winner in the Excellence in Construction Awards competition for the General Contractor Industrial –$15 to $25 million award category.  Turner served as the major mechanical contractor.

The project was originally scheduled for the winter of 2014 with a 52-day duration. However, market conditions and increased demand for the product, incentivized the project to be expedited with a re-engineered plan. The new plan included a pre-turnaround construction work schedule of nine months, beginning in April of 2013 The actual turnaround was executed between January 5, 2014 and February 24, 2014. Post turnaround work continued until April 10, 2014.

As a result of the extensive and innovative planning and coordination by the project team, the turnaround was successfully completed with a total of 248,359 work hours and ZERO OSHA recordable safety incidents. With the excellent craftsmanship and quality control provided by Turner, the unit was able to start up “Leak Free.”

The Excellence in Construction Awards presented by ABC National honors the nation’s most innovative and high quality construction projects, safety programs and diversity programs.
