Last weekend—in keeping with current social-distancing guidelines—The City of Lake Charles invited their residents to attend this year’s annual “Red White Blue & You” 4th of July celebration virtually, live streaming the event on Facebook and KPLC’s Channel 7.
The Brandon Broussard and Chez de Bon Temps band played from Historic City Hall and The Lake Charles Community Band put on a patriotic concert and salute to the Armed Forces featuring a veteran from each branch of service in Central School’s Auditorium.
The City of Lake Charles also hosted a drive-through flag giveaway at Historic City Hall. Volunteers passed out hand-held American flags, along with a children’s prize, to each car. Participants were asked to post photos with the flag to social media with the hashtag #redwhiteblueandyou in support of past and present men and women in uniform. The drive-through also served as an American flag depository for old or worn-out American Flags that are no longer a fitting emblem of display, which will be properly retired with the respect and gravity that it is entitled.
The event was presented by The City of Lake Charles along with community partners—including Turner Industries.
