Turner’s Teamwork Results in Major Safety Milestone at Shintech in Plaquemine

Turner Industries began providing maintenance and support services at the Shintech facility in Plaquemine, Louisiana in 2007. Since the inception of the contract, Turner has added services along the way based on Shintech’s evolving needs. Today—in addition to a nested maintenance crew—Turner provides an array of services including turnarounds, small cap work, scaffolding, crane and rigging, as well as several specialty craft services such as inspections, hydro blasting, and rope access. The addition of services is part of Turner’s ONE solution approach, allowing clients to achieve documented cost savings while working with a trusted partner.
Over the years, working as a team and maintaining constant communication has not only resulted in a successful site, but—more importantly—a successful safety record. On Oct. 6, 2022, Turner employees celebrated six years and 4.2 million hours worked OSHA recordable free.

“This safety milestone is a testament to the hard work of our employees and everyone understanding their roles and responsibilities every minute, every hour, every shift—along with the incredible support we have from Shintech. As working partners, we have common goals when it comes to safety, and we can more easily achieve them by working together. We listen to them, and they listen to us. We are both transparent when it comes to sharing information, and that is why we are so successful. We are very appreciative of Shintech who—through teamwork—makes it possible for everyone to go home safely,” said Turner Site Manager Gerald “Pete” Baker.

“The safety milestone by Turner employees at our Plaquemine site is remarkable! The number of years and manhours worked OSHA free to reach this record didn’t happen by chance. It happened because the Turner employees have demonstrated a commitment to working safely each day, and this mission was supported by both Turner management and Shintech employees at our facility. We are thankful that we have been able to be a part of this accomplishment,” said Danny Cedotal, vice president of manufacturing for Shintech.
