Services Provided
After months of careful planning and weeks of intensive execution, Turner Industries successfully completed the Big Block Turnaround at the PEMEX Deer Park refinery—a major maintenance event that showcased the company’s full range of capabilities across multiple craft disciplines and specialty services. The project concluded with the two metrics that matter most: zero injuries and on-time completion.

Scope and Scale
In the East Block alone, Turner’s Specialized Welding Services (SWS) crews tackled 6 columns, 21 vessels, 45 exchangers, and 341 pipe and valve jobs. Turner completed an additional 68 pipe and valve jobs in the Outside Battery Limits (OSBL) areas while providing critical labor support across the Coker, Distilling, East Block, and OSBL units.
At peak operations, more than 400 Turner personnel were on site, logging over 128,000 workhours. The scaffolding effort alone required 128 scaffolds consisting of over 21,000 pieces of material. Insulation crews removed and installed over 4,300 linear feet of insulation throughout the project.

Leadership and Teamwork
According to the Turner and PEMEX Deer Park project teams, what made this turnaround truly successful was the combination of careful planning, constant communication, and a commitment to safety at every level. From the planning teams who laid the groundwork months in advance to the craft professionals who executed the work with precision, every contribution proved essential.

After months of planning and weeks of intense execution, the Big Block Turnaround was completed safely and on schedule. Congratulations to everyone at the PEMEX Deer Park refinery who helped make this turnaround a winner!
