Phase 2 Complete at Skyfall’s Agricultural Pilot Plant

At a 30-acre site in Geismar, Louisiana, Skyfall Biologicals is proving out an all-natural compound designed to keep stored potatoes dormant and extend their shelf life. Turning that science into a working pilot plant called for precise, field-driven construction, and Skyfall turned to Turner Industries’ capital projects group to deliver it.

Turner’s capital projects group completed Phase 1 a year earlier, installing the plant’s first modular unit. Phase 2 placed a second unit of similar size inside a 60-foot by 120-foot pre-engineered metal building already occupied by the first.

Working from 3D Navisworks models and the operational Phase 1 skid, Turner superintendents mapped out execution strategies before the module arrived from St. Louis. Crews handled civil, piping and mechanical, rigging, scaffolding, painting, insulation and electrical work, frequently redirecting lines to fit operational needs.

Turner’s Equipment, Rigging & Specialized Transportation Division hauled the two-piece module in and stacked it inside the building. The Geismar fabrication shop produced carbon and stainless steel piping as designs were issued.

The original scope finished two weeks ahead of schedule with zero weld rejections and a flawless startup. Skyfall then added work packages that kept Turner’s capital projects group on site for eight months in all, and Skyfall is now planning a fullscale facility next door.
