Turner Industries recently supported Marathon Petroleum’s midstream segment, MPLX, and the nonprofit organization Diné Ba’adeiti (For the People) in a winter firewood initiative across the Southwest.

Firewood has become an essential energy source for cooking and heating in hundreds of rural, off-the-grid homes within the Navajo Nation and Hopi Tribe across Arizona and New Mexico. To help meet peak winter demand, MPLX reached out to Turner Industries to assist with the heavy lifting.

Knowing that a single standard cord of wood can weigh up to 4,000 pounds, Turner Industries provided a skid steer to help load the logs. By using the skid steer, volunteers were able to reduce the loading time for five cords of wood from five hours by hand down to just 20 minutes. Thanks to the increased loading efficiency, the team successfully processed and delivered 16 cords of wood to the Cameron community in Arizona and another 30 cords to the Hogback Chapter near Shiprock, New Mexico.

We’re aligned with MPLX in our vision of improving and growing communities,” said Turner Industries Senior Project Manager Michael Podnar. “We are proud to have played a role in MPLX’s incredible efforts and are thrilled that the equipment could help keep these households warm this winter season.
